On Wednesday 20thand Thursday 21stJune, we were joined by Masterchef 2018 finalist Nawamin Pinpathomrat for his very first supper club since being featured on TV in the Masterchef kitchen!
Nawamin brought the traditions of Thailand to the MasterChef kitchen, but often added his own adventurous spin. He booked his place in the final with a pork satay dish that included profiteroles filled with spicy peanut sauce and topped with white chocolate, a unusual combination that both judges agreed worked brilliantly.
We were ecstatic to welcome Nawamin to Tigerlily and he was excited too – after both nights SOLD OUT within 48 hours, we knew we were in for a brilliant couple of days!
Nawamin worked closely with Nik Biok our Executive Chef to create an inspiring 3 course menu to showcase the skills he learned throughout his time on Masterchef.
As guests arrived, they received an Asian inspired cocktail of Roku Gin and Midouri before being offered a canape of larb pork with tamarind sauce - herby thai style pork sausage which was deliciousy fragrant. The starter featured pan seared scallops with Scottish wild mushrooms and a tom yum beurre blanc – the hint of spice from the tom yum was a refreshing accompaniment to the delicate scallops.
Main course was a perfectly tender chicken Ballantine with a lemongrass stuffed chicken wing, crispy chicken skin, baby aubergine and green curry sauce. We couldn't help but wonder if this was inspired by his anatomy of a crab as a selection of chicken cute were used - each delicious in their own way!
And what's a dinner without dessert? A roasted coconut panna cotta with pandan sticky rice, thai green mango, passionfruit syrup and lotus root crisp cleansed the palate of the spices that preceded and also left everyone with a wonderfully creamy taste of coconut - reminiscent of sipping a Pina colada on the beach.
Nawamin was a fantastic host, making time to talk to every one of our guests including signing menus and taking selfies! A truly genuine and friendly guy who has a life of success ahead of him – whether it’s in the kitchen or the surgery!
